Heroes

1800's

Ulysses S. Grant was the Union General during the Civil War and he played an important role in the Union victory. He graduated second from last at West Point while being in same class as Robert E. Lee who graduated at the top. He was a very honorable general as he went in with a private uniform, even after his promotion to General and goes on to the front lines with his troops. Everyone respected him because he would never ask them to do anything that he doesn't do. Lincoln knew Grant could get the job done which is why he was called to lead the East as a General. He helped our nation because he wasn't afraid to take risks and was always willing to give 100% of himself to the task at hand.

1900's

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 and died on April 4, 1968. He was a leader of the Civil Rights Movement and helped many speak up and get their voices heard about what was wrong with segregation and our nation at the time. He was also a pastor in which he would give giant lectures to people on life and how everything is unbalanced. King helped organize the 1963 March on Washington amongst various other marches. In this march, King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech which was heard by thousands upon thousands of people. He was arrested multiple times throughout his life for speaking up yet due to his actions, he helped African Americans get the rights they deserved a few years later. He was brutally murdered in a hotel room by a man who didn't like his ethics and didn't want to see Blacks have rights.
