Critical Elections

1800's

The Election of 1800 was a critical election during the 1800's because it was the foundation for a new political party, the democratic-republican party to come into office while the Federalists were starting to lose their momentum. This election was between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. During the political campaign, Thomas Jefferson broke the Federalist control on the Northeast by winning New York. This set the Federalist into a decline from which they never recovered, and pushed the country forwards.

1900's

The Election of 1932 was an important election as it came right after the start of the Great Depression. In this election, candidates Franklin Delano Rooseelt went against formed President of the United States, Herbert Hoover. Roosevelt won both the electoral and popular vote, receiving the highest percentage of the popular vote for a Democratic nominee in history. FDR became one of the most influential and successful presidents in history and during his inauguration speech, he said the famous words, “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself”.
